ELIGIBILITY:

Contest is open to all artists.  Work submitted must be photography based, original art.  Your photography must be an integral part of the finished work.

           (Note: Work that has been previously submitted to Studio II Gallery exhibits will be eligible for this contest, except that images previously exhibited at  Studio II Gallery CONTEST shows are NOT eligible). 

 

Generally, maximum footprint of  the finished piece is 50 x 50 inches, including multiple images shown as one.  Three dimensional art can be 50 x 50 x 50 inches. If your artwork requires exceptional installation techniques or space, call us!

 

Submission of entries indicates agreement to all items contained within this notice including full text of  Contest Contract as shown below.

 

Artist entering the contest gives Studio II Gallery permission to use their name and images in our advertising campaigns. This might include print ads, placement on our website, or mailers.

 

All work entered in the contest must be available for sale by the Gallery for the duration of the exhibit.  Gallery commission of 50% will be taken on all pieces sold.

SUBMISSION INFORMATION:

Submission includes: Entry Form (below), digital files, return postage as required, and your bio if you wish to include one.

 

Initial judging from submitted digital file showing an overall

view of the work. 

 

Label each file sequentially.   Follow the number with your Last name, first initial, short title of work.

Digital files must be high quality jpeg, 96 resolution, in RGB or grayscale.  Size no larger than 600 pixels on longest dimension.   Digital files & payment must be received no later than June 5, 2010.

 

Exhibition images will be chosen  from the submitted digital files.  Submission of files does not guarantee acceptance to the exhibit. Upon notification of acceptance, artists will provide the Gallery with final, exhibition quality, ready to display artwork. Artwork different than submitted digital files, or inadequately prepared

for display will be rejected.

 

Traditional images have archival white mat, a black frame, and a  wire hanger with a 3 inch drop.  Works may vary from this

style requirement if necessary for the artistic integrity of

the piece.

 

If a special stand or equipment is required to display, it must be provided. 

 

All works must hang, stand, or rest securely on the floor.  We can not be responsible for unstable artworks.  Unusual installation needs may require the assistance of the artist at the time of the installation.

 

 

Text Box: JUDGE:  We are proud to announce that our esteemed judge for this year’s event is  HUNTINGTON WITHERILL 
                
Huntington Witherill is a perfect judge for the wide range of artistic forms this year’s contest will provide. He studied photography under Ansel Adams, Wynn Bullock, Steve Crouch, and Al Weber, and has exhibited in more than eighty-five individual and group exhibititions and galleries throughout the world.  His work is in numerous collections worldwide.  His diverse approach to the medium includes classic landscapes, studies of pop-art, botanical subjects, urban architecture, abstracts, and digital imaging.  Two award winning monographs include Orchestrating Icons and Botanical Dances were published by LensWork Publishing, and his work appears in the premier issue of Color magazine (from the publishers of Black and White).  His teaching and workshop programs have been presented at University of California, Friends of Photography, and the Ansel Adams Gallery, among others.  He was recipent of "Artist of the Year" presented by Center for Photographic Art in 1999.  His exquisite work in a variety of methods makes him an ideal juror for our current contest.  We are extremely pleased that he can join us. STUDIO II GALLERY CONTEST CONTRACT

  Submission of images constitutes your agreement with the following:

 

Artist and Studio II Gallery Napa Valley ( Studio II) agree that the Artist wishes to have certain artworks represented by Studio II, and Studio II wishes to represent the Artist under the terms and conditions of this agreement. THEREFORE, in consideration of the covenants hereinafter set forth and other valuable consideration, the parties hereto agree as follows:

1. Term and Termination. This agreement shall have a term of the current contest and exhibition.

2. Commissions.  Studio II shall receive a commission of 50% percent of the retail price of each work sold.

3.               Prices.  During the term of this agreement, Studio II shall rely upon the Artist’s entry for the correct retail price.

4.               Payments.  Studio II shall pay the Artist the net amount due within thirty days of (1) sale OR (2) end of exhibit.

5.               Loss or Damage.  Studio II shall be responsible for the safekeeping of all consigned artworks.  Except for loss or                  damage to any consigned artwork as a result of an act of God, war, or stand/frame/hanger failure, Studio II shall                    be liable for loss or damage to any consigned artwork from the date of receipt at Studio II until the work is returned                  to the Artist, return shipped,  or delivered to a purchaser.  Items return shipped in Artist’s supplied materials cease                  to be the responsibility of  Studio II once placed in the hands of the shipping firm.  In the event of loss or damage                  that cannot be restored, the Artist shall receive the same net amount as if the work had been sold. 

6.               Copyright. Studio II shall take all steps necessary to ensure that the Artist’s copyright in the consigned works is                  protected.  Artist extends to Studio II the right to reproduce work for the purpose of marketing and/or advertising                  this and future events.  Person entering the art guarantees that they are the sole owner of the copyright to the                  materials entered.

7.               Addresses of  Record.  Artist and Studio II each agree that the name and address provided on the Entry Form are                  correct for mailing notices, artwork, and/or payment.  If, after three attempts, the address given for receipt of the                  artwork, digital files, and/or payment  proves undeliverable, said becomes the possession, in total, of Studio II,                  to do with as Studio II owners see fit.

8.              This agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of California.

9.              Agreement between parties is considered agreed to and signed on the date of receipt of the Entry by Studio II.

10.            Studio II is the sole governing entity over this contest.  All decisions made by Studio II are final.

DELIVERING YOUR ART

Upon notification of acceptance,  Artist will deliver a finished ready to hang artwork to the Gallery for exhibit.  Deliver to:

   STUDIO II GALLERY—NAPA VALLEY

   570 Soscol Ave., Napa, CA 94559

   Gallery Hours: Thurs. thru Mon. 11-5.

 

Your art must be received at the Gallery between June 26, and July 16, 2010. If art must be shipped, use plexi, not glass. Work must be identical to the accepted submitted entry. Deviation is cause for disqualification.

Work considered improperly or inadequately prepared for display will, of necessity, be rejected. Use secure hangers!

                 GENERAL GUIDELINES AND SOME IDEAS FOR ENTRIES.          

 

All Fine Art Photography and Photography Based Art is welcome, including:  two or three dimensional works, solo artist, and multi-artist collaborative works.   Your photography must be an integral part of the finished artwork.

 

Some ideas: 

Unusual camera, lens, or technique —  such as: cell phone, pinhole, lensless photography, lumen prints, scanning, multiple                  images, multiple exposures, Lensbaby.

Alternative processing , old or new: bromoil, platinum, cross processing, Lith printing etc.

Unusual or specialized lighting or effects — painting with light, painting with color, low light

After effects, altered photographs —  such as: toning, hand painted, collage, encaustic, mixed media, computer manipulated.

Innovative platform or display: such as: handmade emulsion, non-paper base, mounted on wood, etc.

Other imaginings

And spectacular traditional images including: “I can’t believe I got that shot.”
