                                  "WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD"
An Invitational Exhibit — The Napa Valley Photographic Society
CLOSING DAY: MAY 17, 2008

We are well familiar with the excellent photographic works of our friends at the Napa Valley Photograhic Society, and it is with pride that we announce an exhibit featuring exclusively the works of the membership.  Classic black and white, color prints from film and digital, transfer prints, and manipulated works are all beautifully represented. This exhibit offers excellence and diversity.  Don't miss it!

Members in good standing with NVPS were invited to enter work for this exhibit. Twenty six individual members submitted work that was juried into the exhibit. Ribbons were awarded by the judges and for People’s Choice. Drop by to see the work. It is extraordinary!

Check NVPS website www.napavalleyphotographicsociety.org  or call the gallery for details. Their regular meetings are held the 4th Monday of each month, at Studio II Gallery. Guests are welcome

Lighting I Workshop
aka Friday Night Lights
Friday, May 16th 7-10 p.m. $40.00 per person
Sorry– no walk-ins. Reservations are required.

This workshop is a general lighting workshop. It is not just about studio lighting. We start with a description of the concepts to be covered and then move right to your working “hands on.” As you work through various set up shots, we will discuss the “qualities” of lighting. You’ll practice metering as you adjust the lighting, adjust the exposure and learn to control the contrast. You do not need studio experience. But, you do need to bring your camera and know how to basically operate it. For this workshop we recommend a digital SLR because of its immediate feedback. Talk to us about your camera. If you have a tripod and/or a hand held meter—bring them.

Participants have ranged from students wanting a head start as they enter photo classes to working photographers who want to better understand lighting. This workshop won’t make you a lighting expert, but it’s a great start. Call for reservations.

(New)   Lighting II Workshop   (New)
Friday   April 11th     7-10 pm    $40.00 per person
Sorry - no walk ins   Reservations are required

This all new for 2008 workshop follows the same format as Lighting I but builds on what we've learned.  We start with a short lecture/review of light, lighting, metering and exposure then quickly move to a series of set up workstations.  These lighting situations will let you see and learn cause and effect as you adjust the various lighting set ups.  Learn to create effective lighting and to affect creative lighting.

We are again recommending a digital SLR because of it's immediate feedback.  Talk to us about your camera.  If you have a tripod and/or a hand held meter - bring them.  Talk to us if you have questions.  Call for reservations/info.

Studio Lighting Workshop
 Friday  June 27th 7-10 p.m.    $40.00 per person
Sorry - no walk ins   Reservations will be required

This is an intermediate level studio lighting workshop.  This workshop will give you the training required to rent a studio.  You'll learn to set up and meter the studio lighting set ups used in classic and contemporary portrait photography including glamour/butterfly, short side, broad side, Rembrandt, side and back lit (silhouette) lighting techniques.  Complexion flattering or dramatic lighting are artistic choices you control as you are shown how to meter each scene and choose the level of contrast.  This course is also about learning to visualize the image and predict how changes in the lighting will effect it.  Reservations are required.  We recommend prior completion of the Basic Lighting Workshop.  Call with any questions.  Thank you.
